April (K-3 Literacy/Numeracy)I have been a classroom teacher for the past 17 years. Starting out in grade 5, then moving to grade 1, I then found grade 2 to be a perfect fit and have been in this grade up until 2016. I began teaching on a small reserve school called, Duncan’s First Nation, and when this teaching job ended, I began my career with Peace Wapiti School Division and have been here ever since. I have a passion for teaching and some would say it’s my life. I can not image a better career. Throughout my 17 years, my teaching style and knowledge has changed and evolved. I’ve grown as a teacher and I believe my students have benefited from my professional growth. I have many passions in education and if you know me, you will know, they are math, technology and currently literacy. I believe children are capable of so much and I always sought to nurture and guide their learning. I hope to do the same with the teachers I work with in the primary grades. I am looking forward to this new chapter in my career and assisting teachers in any capacity with numeracy and literacy instruction.

Leann (4-6 Literacy/Numeracy)I have been teaching since 1998 and have had the opportunity to teach in schools on northern Vancouver Island, High Level and here in Grande Prairie. I was an Alberta Excellence in Teaching semi-finalist in 2011, have completed extensive balanced literacy training including a two year train-the-trainer model of Balanced Literacy, have been a member of the NRLC Teaching/Learning/21st Century Competencies Leadership Cohort for the past five years and was the recipient of MCATA Mathematics Educator of the Year Award in 2013. Teaching grades five and six, over the past ten years, literacy and numeracy have been my top priorities. My experiences in the classroom have taught me that students thrive in an environment that allows them to puzzle, question, explain and problem solve. When students are engaged in their own learning, they willingly accept the challenge to think critically and reflectively. I am very excited to begin this new chapter working side by side with teachers as we uncover ways to teach numeracy and literacy that build communication, connections and critical thinking skills for all students.
